Dr. Rubin's education and experience have given her the knowledge and skills to help you or your relative obtain the best medical care available and to be as healthy as possible given your medical condition(s). She combines academic experience measuring quality of care in all medical disciplines with a patient-centered, holistic, integrative approach open to all potentially useful treatments.

After receiving a B.A. in Chemistry from Oberlin College, Dr. Rubin went to medical and graduate school at Case Western Reserve University, where she was awarded an M.D. and Ph.D. in Pathology. She became interested in quality of care when her father nearly died unnecessarily because a surgeon misdiagnosed a hospital-acquired bloodstream infection as depression. She studied quality assessment in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at UCLA, where she was awarded the Master of Science in Public Health. She also completed a Business of Medicine Certificate at Johns Hopkins' Carey School of Business.

Dr. Rubin has devoted her career, including 15 years on the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine faculty as an academic internist, to discovering and testing ways of measuring and improving the quality of medical care. At Johns Hopkins, she spearheaded many of the hospital's service excellence and performance improvement initiatives and was a member of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Steering committee. She was one of the first 100 women in the history of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine to attain the academic rank of Professor. She also has had academic appointments at UCSF and the University of Hawaii, where she continues on the graduate faculty. She directed the Research Institute of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, where she founded the Department of Health Care Policy and Research, and is affiliated with the Stanford Primary Care and Outcomes Research center.

With over 100 publications in medical journals and other media on the topic of improving the quality of medical care, Dr. Rubin has conducted studies with colleagues measuring and improving the quality and results of care in general internal medicine, cardiology, cardiac surgery, oncology, neurology, nephrology and dialysis care, psychology, urology, ophthalmology, infectious diseases, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, rheumatology, intensive/critical care, anesthesiology, pediatrics, obstetrics, and other disciplines [see HayaRubin.CV.pdf]
